THE COST OF KHAN:
KHAN'S CRIME RECORD
Sadiq Khan's time as Mayor of London will be defined by his failure to tackle the alarming increase in violent crime.
The latest crime statistics show the Mayor's shocking failure. Since Khan took office, there has been a 24% rise in homicides, reaching its peak in 2018 as 135 people were murdered, the highest number for 10 years. Since 2015/16, knife crime has rocketed by 52%, robbery has soared by 59%, and residential burglary has increased by 37%.
Instead of demonstrating leadership on this issue, Sadiq Khan has continued to avoid taking responsibility for failing to get to grips with violent crime. He has repeatedly blamed central Government for his failure and pointed the finger at drill music, the middle classes and even boredom for the rise in violence.

WHAT HAS THE MAYOR DONE?
The Mayor has set up the Violence Reduction Unit at City Hall, following the example set by Scotland's successful unit which reduced violent crime. However, the Mayor has been accused of treating it as a PR exercise after it came to light that it will not cover all of London, and he appointed a political ally to lead it.
Sadiq Khan is quick to plead poverty when it comes to the fight against violent crime, but since he came into office he has found millions more for spin doctors, City Hall staff and waste at Transport for London. He has also found the funds for beach parties, personality tests for Met staff and golden goodbyes for TfL executives.
In March 2019, the Mayor rejected our plan to cut £83 million of waste and use the savings to put an extra 1,378 police officers on our streets.
