Staggering 15% increase in 2015 requires swift action by police

Domestic violence incidents in London surged by over 9,000 in one year, show figures highlighted by Kemi Badenoch AM.

During the 12 months to November 2015, there were 70,682 reports of domestic abuse reported to the Metropolitan Police Service, an increase from 61,471 the previous year.

Kemi will be raising the issue with Boris Johnson at Mayor’s Question Time on Wednesday.

Kemi Badenoch AM said:

“This surge in the number of incidents of domestic violence is a major concern. It should be welcomed that victims feel they can come forward and report attacks, but the significant increase must be met with sufficient resources, including preventative measures. How many of these incidents are being reported by previous victims? What are the Mayor and the Commissioner doing to deal with these types of attacks? I will be calling for a renewed focus on tackling this worrying trend.”
