‘With 159 serious sex offenders wanted or missing in London alone¹, how many crooks have been ‘lost’ across the UK?’
63 serious sex offenders have gone completely missing in London, whilst on supervision.
Under “Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements” (MAPPA)², the national probation service, HM prison service and the Met are responsible for managing serious sexual and violent criminals, once they complete their sentence. However, the Met only holds data for sex offenders such as rapists and paedophiles.
A further 96 serious sex criminals are ‘wanted’ by police, mainly for breaching their notification requirements – failing to inform the police of details such as home address and passport details. In an FOI response, police say they ‘believe’ these 96 wanted offenders are living abroad in countries where sex offender legislation is perhaps not as robust.

Shocking figures reveal 1,889 people have been killed or seriously injured in an accident involving a London bus in the last five years¹.
In a new report ‘Clear Road Ahead: Bus collisions and the need for transparency’, GLA Conservatives transport spokesman, Richard Tracey, is urging transport bosses to publish the worst performing bus companies and routes on a quarterly basis.
“Overcrowding test” vital for new housing in London
An overcrowding test must be applied to new housing developments in London, says Conservative London Assembly Member Andrew Boff.
Under the proposed changes, ‘overcrowding’ should become a key factor when planning decisions are made, and developers should specifically demonstrate how their new housing projects will address overcrowding in London.

Private companies sponsoring the tube can overhaul the tube system for London's commuters by footing the bill for major projects such as free 4G, lifts and TV screens.
A new report “Sealing the Deal: TfL sponsorship feasibility study” shows industry experts backing the huge benefits tube sponsorship can bring to passenger journeys, in addition to bearing down on fares. As part of any sponsorship deal, there is potential for companies to pay for or significantly contribute towards specific upgrades or improvements to stations such as mobile phone connectivity at tube platforms, TV news broadcasts on platforms, lifts, ramps, station deep cleans, toilets and water fountains.
Authorities blind to the hidden crime of human trafficking in the Capital

There have been 1,057 potential victims of human trafficking* identified in the UK so far this year¹. London accounts for 39% of all cases (389) identified by local authorities, the Met and NGOs such as charities¹. Of London’s 389 cases, just 36 were picked up by the Met.
Almost 200 court cases in London dropped or delayed every week because of prosecution failings
- 9,560 cases thrown out or delayed in London due to failings by prosecution or court system
- Dropped and delayed cases estimated to cost taxpayer £17.4M nationally
23K (23,237) cases in London’s Crown and Magistrates courts were dropped or delayed in 2012.
Failings by the prosecution and court system were to blame for four in ten (9,560) thrown out or delayed cases in the Capital, working out at 184 every week.
London was the worst performing region when it came to cases being delayed (16% of cases at Crown Courts and 20% at Magistrates Court level classed as ‘ineffective’).

39% average union vote for strikes to go ahead
Calls for shorter working week and triple pay lead to 30 strikes over six year period – costing London over £1bn
Strikes on London’s public transport are going ahead with small minorities of the workforce voting in favour of industrial action.
Strikes on the London Overground this bank holiday weekend (25th – 26th August) have been initiated by just 43% of train guards voting in favour.
Shockingly, this is a relatively strong turnout when compared with new figures which show tube strikes went ahead with an average of just 39% of the ‘yes vote’ over a six year period (2005-2011)*, with some successful ballots having a vote as low as 20%. The six year period has seen 30 strikes with reasons including calls for a shorter working week and triple pay on Boxing Day.
Mayor’s “Pocket Parks” should become hive of activity to support London’s resurgent Bees
New report recommends that Mayor uses his schemes for new park space and tree planting to create insect friendly environment to help sustain resurgent Bee population.
A new report “Thinking Outside the Hive: supporting London’s pollinators” is proposing a number of recommendations to help sustain the increase in Bees and other pollinating insects in the capital. Research carried out shows that there are plenty of Honeybees in London, but a shortage of the right type of plants for them to pollinate. The report suggests the following recommendations:
- The Mayor’s Pocket Parks scheme that provides grants for communities to develop neglected areas into green spaces should encourage those applying for cash to incorporate block planting that benefits pollinators.
- Encourage London’s borough councils to use specifically insect-friendly tree species as part of the Mayor’s Street Trees scheme.
- Help pro-pollinator planting by creating a single online resource that compiles a list of variety of plant and tree species and which insects they support.
Open up secret crime museum’s "Jack The Ripper" artefacts to the public
The Met’s hidden crime museum should become a temporary exhibit with profits reinvested into frontline policing
The Met should open up its secret 150 year old Crime Museum collection to the public and turn it into a profitable attraction, according to a new report.
“History’s Life Sentence” proposes that the Met, instead of opening a costly stand-alone museum¹, should tender a contract to private exhibition operators for showcasing rights and reinvest the generated profits into frontline policing.
An initial temporary three month exhibition in a pre-existing London museum could attract as many as 300,000 visitors and pay for an additional 54,900 front line police hours².
